St. Malo 65 was built for the exhale. Fresh ocean breezes through open windows, sea light in every room, slow coffee, salt water twice a day. Days organize themselves around almost nothing — and that’s the point.

A community out of a storybook
In 1929, a Pasadena gentleman began building an invitation-only village of French Normandy cottages where the lagoon meets the sea — and remarkably little has changed since. The gatehouse still greets every arrival. The lanes are still quiet.
My grandmother built this house inside those gates in the 1970s. Three generations later, we share it.

When to Come
Four seasons, one address
There is no off-season at St. Malo — only quieter ones.
Summer June — August The classic. Long beach days, volleyball at golden hour, dinner on the deck.
Fall September — November The locals’ secret: the warmest water, emptiest sand, best light of the year.
Winter December — February Bluebird days between the rains — clear air and the healing season.
Spring March — May The community smells of gardenias — lanes in bloom, courts warm by nine.
